Ruth 1 Commentary

Elimelech moved his family to Moab due to a famine, while there he and his sons died leaving their widows behind.

Naomi tells her daughters-in-law to return to their home so that they may find Moabite husbands. Orpah leaves but Ruth stays.

Ruth commits to following Naomi wherever she goes and following her God. She returns to Bethlehem with Naomi.
