Psalms 145:7 meaning

God’s abundant goodness prompts continuous celebration of His righteousness.

King David, who ruled as Israel’s king around 1010-970 BC, composed this psalm as a magnificent tribute to God’s praiseworthy character. In his words, he declares: “They shall eagerly utter the memory of Your abundant goodness And will shout joyfully of Your righteousness” (v.7). David, speaking not only for himself but for all who love the LORD, expresses how believers should never tire of testifying to God’s great deeds in the past. This persistent remembrance turns hearts to enthusiasm, prompting them to proclaim the righteousness of the same God whose greatness “is unsearchable” (Psalm 145:3), and whom David also exalts as “gracious and merciful” (Psalm 145:8).

Here, the psalmist underscores the importance of active proclamation: They shall eagerly utter the memory of Your abundant goodness. The Hebrew people often recounted the wonders of the LORD—how He delivered them from oppression and guided them through the wilderness—to reinforce their trust in Him. By recalling stories of His faithfulness, David’s audience would deepen their confidence in God’s unchanging nature. Such testimony transforms into praise: And will shout joyfully of Your righteousness (v.7). This leads to spirited worship, grounded in the conviction that the same LORD who demonstrated His goodness to past generations still sits enthroned, bestowing mercy and justice upon those who seek Him.

Psalm 145 as a whole forms a tapestry of honor to God’s name, with verse 7 weaving in the thread that highlights verbal praise and remembrance. Calling to mind the LORD’s involvement in human affairs invites everyone to deliver their personal witness of His kindness. David’s thought world pictures a people collectively stirred by gratitude, pointing to a God who is “good” (Psalm 145:9), worthy of continuous exaltation, and the ultimate source of lasting hope.
