Psalms 65:6 meaning

He displays the might to create and the mercy to care for what He has made.

“Who establishes the mountains by His strength,
Being girded with might” (v.6). This magnificent description highlights God as the One who forms the towering peaks of the earth by His immeasurable power. What humans view as immovable and unshakable is set in place by the Lord’s authority. In other places of Scripture, mountains quake in the presence of His glory, reminding us that even they cannot withstand His almighty hand (Habakkuk 3:10). Here, David praises God for His creative might, calling all who behold the mountains to stand in worshipful awe.

By describing the Lord as Being girded with might, Psalm 65:6 emphasizes the completeness of His power and the way He sustains the world. In biblical culture, to “gird” meant to prepare oneself for action; this verse portrays God as fully arrayed in strength, ready to act as both Creator and Sustainer of every natural force. Such attributes underscore His guardianship over people who trust in Him, since the One who can set the mountains firmly in place is more than able to protect, guide, and redeem.

This verse also anticipates the New Testament revelation of Jesus as the Creator through whom all things were made (John 1:3). God’s strength in shaping the mountains is a reminder of the security His people find in Him. Those who belong to the Lord can stand confidently, knowing His power transcends every obstacle and reaches beyond any earthly limit.
