Psalms 99:6 meaning

God remains faithful to answer those who faithfully call on Him.

Moses and Aaron were among His priests, And Samuel was among those who called on His name; They called upon the LORD and He answered them (v.6). This verse points to three towering figures in Israel’s history who each faithfully served God and experienced His gracious response. Moses (c. 1526-1406 BC) led the Israelites out of Egypt and received the Law at Mount Sinai, located in the southern region of the Sinai Peninsula. Aaron (c. 1532-1407 BC) served as the first high priest, standing between God and the people through sacrifices and intercession. Samuel (c. 11th century BC) emerged later during the period of the judges, serving as a transitional leader between the era of judges and the establishment of kings in Israel. All three displayed a shared devotion: They called on the LORD, and He answered them, underlining God’s consistent care for those who seek Him.

Moses and Aaron were among His priests (v.6) draws attention to the spiritual role these men held in leading God’s people. Although Moses is primarily known as a prophet and deliverer, here the psalmist highlights how both brothers represented God’s holiness and mediating presence. The wilderness journey became a training ground for Israel’s faith, culminating at Mount Sinai where the covenant was established between God and His chosen people. This scripture reminds believers that God entrusted Moses and Aaron with priestly duties, emphasizing the significance of praying for and guiding others toward obedience.

And Samuel was among those who called on His name; They called upon the LORD and He answered them (v.6) focuses on the faithfulness God displayed in later generations as well. Samuel’s life, taking place centuries after Moses and Aaron, confirmed that the LORD remains present to hear the prayers of those who walk by faith. In the New Testament, Jesus Himself affirms that all who call upon His name and trust in Him will be received by the Father (Romans 10:13). This continuity underscores that God’s character does not change. He responds to repentant hearts and extends grace and guidance to those who seek Him wholeheartedly.
