Psalms 107:15 meaning

This verse highlights humanity’s fitting response of thanksgiving for God’s unending love and miraculous care.

“Let them give thanks to the LORD for His lovingkindness, And for His wonders to the sons of men!” (Psalms 107:15). This verse proclaims a call to acknowledge God’s enduring mercy and to marvel at His continual acts of rescue. It appears amid repeated refrains in Psalm 107, where various groups of people, each in trouble, cry out to the LORD and are saved by His compassionate intervention. Here, the psalmist urges everyone who has experienced God’s deliverance to respond with grateful praise, testifying to His steadfast love that never fails.

The Hebrew word often translated as lovingkindness (חֶסֶד, “hesed”) conveys God’s loyal covenantal love, a love that does not waver based on circumstance. Throughout the psalms, this hesed is linked to God’s goodness and faithfulness, inviting His people to remember that deliverance comes only by His power. Echoing themes found elsewhere, Scripture frequently calls believers to “give thanks to the LORD, for He is good,” tying His essential goodness to His unfailing kindness and His remarkable deeds on behalf of humankind (see Psalms 107:1, 118:1).

From a New Testament perspective, Jesus embodies the ultimate display of God’s steadfast love. He offers salvation and rest to all who turn to Him in faith, extending the same deliverance pictured in this psalm to a spiritual rescue from sin and separation (Romans 5:8). As the psalmist reiterates, God’s wonders to the “sons of men” are manifold, and each one promotes genuine gratitude and worship among those who receive His mercy.
